Smelly Saturday

You know when you put something off for so long, like cleaning out a closet; and then it gets fuller and messier then the thought of dealing with it gets so overwhelming that you just shut the closet door and walk away?

That's me with blogging lately. Where do I start when I haven't written in a month? Well, guess I'll start with today.

Last night, we went to the first exhibition game and Brady has his first job as a ball boy. As anyone knows, Brady was basically born to be ballboy, so no dramatics to report. He did appear to be sleeping during the game, which he insists he was not.  Can you spot him?

Jackson got to bring a friend and it was a great start to the weekend.

Then the night hit. Avery has been waking up a lot lately but last night was out of the ordinary. Avery probably woke up 30 times, no exaggeration. She'd whine and then go back to sleep. I ended up sleeping with her and had a feeling that she wasn't feeling well. Eric left for work at 5:30 (yes, 530 on a Saturday) and right after I heard Avery's tummy rumble and she had an audibly big poop. She didn't wake up so I let her keep sleeping. Jackson then crawled in bed with us, which I relevant because he acted as a barrier when, 45 minutes later, Avery vomited all over me, herself, and her bed. Multiple times. I couldn't move, tried to wake up Jackson but without pushing him out of the bed, I couldn't. So I tried to catch as much puke in my t-shirt that I had taken off.

Brady wandered in looking bewildered as his nearly naked mom and sick sister rushed out. This is not my first experience with a kid puking, but my first experience with a kid who has longer hair puking. It was all in her hair, and mine.

I took a one-handed shower with Avery, literally holding her the whole time, and eventually got a robe on myself and a diaper on her and came back into my clean bed to snuggle.  I broke the news to the boys that we wouldn't be able to go to the football game we had planned, or the Halloween party that night.  They took it ok, until I told them they'd also have to miss their last baseball game, the one where they'd get their long awaited participation trophy. I saw some quivering lips and told them we'd see how Avery was doing in an hour.

She got pretty perky, even ate some breakfast and I told the boys we'd probably be able to make it. Then she told me her tummy hurt. Knowing we'd be home the entire day, I made a judgment call, got everyone in the car, and prayed any sickness would come out the bottom end and not the top. She started whining halfway there and I chided myself for being so stupid, seeing how terribly this could play out. Then I heard and explosion in her diaper and I've never been so happy to hear diarrhea.

While she was lying on me at the baseball fields, I could literally hear her tummy rumbling. She had another diaper explosion but we made it through the games ok.  And the boys got their damn well-earned trophies.

I'm lying with Avery now, who I realize, judging by the odor, got insufficient hair treatment. She woke up a while ago but is back to sleep on me. She blew up this diaper too (again, the odors), but I don't want to wake a sleeping child.  I'm so thankful the boys are pretty self-sufficient, I can only handle one high-maintenance child at a time.

Be back soon when things are hopefully less, smelly.
