Red mouths and pink eyes

Christmas is over, Trump is president, but who said the fun has to stop?  We've had some highs and lows lately when it comes to medical/bodily situations.  On the positive, the tooth fairy made her first appearance at our house. And she should have just hung out and slept in our tent a few days because she had to come back just a few days later. The 2nd tooth was pulled in the middle of Home Depot while I was shopping for paint supplies with all three kids. Which is a pretty fitting because there's lots of multitasking going on these days.

Pardon the bloody mouth.

On the negative side, we're dealing with pink eye for Avery right now and have miraculously avoided spreading it. Except Eric. Which is slightly funny, given that out of myself, Brady and Jackson,he is spend the least amount of time with her the last few days.  Getting eyedrops and both her eyes three times a day is been an act of God. I'm dealing with one stubborn girl who does not like to do it she does not like to do.

This picture has nothing to do with her pink eye, but when I get frustrated with her, its the type of picture that makes me laugh and love her so much.

Last Wednesday, Eric was thoughtful enough to offer that me and the kids drive down to Winston Salem for the day. The team was playing Wake Forest that night and he had a hotel room at the Embassy Suites for the day. Since we were on day five of snow/ice days, accurately assessed guys be nice to get out of the house. So the plan was for us all to drive down in the morning together and the kids could swim at the pool and I would take the kids back before the game. That morning, as we were driving down I 40 about 15 minutes away from our destination, as all three kids were sleeping, Brady started vomiting all over himself. By the time I got to the backseat and Eric pulled off to the shoulder he was still throwing up. It was an excessive amount of vomit. It was a challenging cleanup process and it required us to make a stop at Target for bags, Lysol spray and wipes, and the new booster seat.  Thankfully, Brady felt OK afterwards and the kids up for swimming and having a good time.  After lunch, Eric had to go to practice for a few hours which left me and the kids in the hotel. Which would've been totally fine had I not gotten really sick. It's actually unrelated to Bradys stomach bug, I have my own medical issues I am trying to work out, but basically I get terrible stomach pains and heartburn that leaves me pretty worthless.

It was in that state I found myself with three kids in a hotel room. Brady got sick again and I deserve some sort of medal for being there for him while keeping Avery from inserting herself in the puke stream.  But as with most things and parenting, you really just don't have much of a choice in the matter.

Parenting sucks sometimes. That should probably be first sentence in  parenting manual that I'm working on.

Its also awesome.

Edited to add: to show you how long one post takes me to write and publish, Jackson has since acquired and got rid of pink eye. I really shouldn't be this hard!

State of affairs

Starting out 2017, I felt it was only fair to update you on the state of affairs in our house.

What we're wearing:
For Avery, any shoe she can get her paws on. (yes, its confirmed, she's a Hoot)  We have single shoes strewn all over the house because of her (doesn't help that there is literally a drawer of shoes in her room for the ones that the boys have outgrown). She gets a shoe, sometimes her own, usually her brothers, occasionally her parents', thrusts it to you until you put it on her and then throws a fit if it falls off when she starts walking in it.  Rinse and repeat.   For Jackson, its anything that's not pants.  He's moderately agreeable to put on pants when we're going outside but he strips down faster than I can get my shoes off when we walk in the door.  For Brady, clothes are just less of an issue these days which gives me hope for the future because clothes have always been an ISSUE with that kid.

What we're playing,
Pop-a-shot (thank you Santa), among other Christmas gifts.  Another favorite is a Christmas gift from Grandma....the boys love it, get engrossed in it, and its QUIET.

What we're watching.
Shimmer and Shine.  That's a popular show...for the boys.  No judgment.

What we're reading:
Avery rules the books these days.  I'll be reading a book to the boys and she will come shut that so fast if it is not her choice.  Then she'll thrust her book into your hand.  Subtlety is not her strong suit.  Usually, its Elmo's potty book.  I (and she) is lucky that her brothers are pretty low maintenance and are generally unruffled by her bossiness. The other morning, I woke up early with all the kids and I was lying in the boys bed, praying that Avery would play by herself so I could close my eyes for a few more precious moments.  The boys came in the bed and snuggled with me and I was *almost in heaven...until Avery came and literally hit me over the head with a book (a hard one).  So we read.

How we're sleeping:
Terrible, thanks for asking.  Its why I need to close my eyes in the boys bed early in the morning.

What we're doing for snow days:
Snow started Friday night....its Monday night and our road is a solid sheet of ice.  No school tomorrow, probably Wednesday.  Since Avery is my problem child and I'm stuck with her snow or no snow, having the boys out of school is no biggie.  And its actually nice not having to get Brady on the bus at 7:04!  We've been able to get out of our house, thankfully.  The basketball game on Sunday was our first venture out and a much needed escape.  And winning by 51 to NC State didn't hurt anyone's mood.

We came back to the Smith Center to play with friends on Monday and had a great time.  This photo is just a classic.

And of course, a few obligatory actual snow pics.

As this girl what a dinosaur says and tell me she's not just the cutest thing you've ever seen.  (Then you should probably walk out the door because stay too long and you may see her other side!!!)
