Letters to Brady: 7 years old

Dear Brady,

Seven. It's the number of days in the week, number of continents in the world, number of dwarves in the book, number of colors in the rainbow, and number of years my first born has been alive!

It's quite striking how much life has changed since the day seven years ago when we met. The day you were born was the most pain and most joy I've ever felt, and it was perhaps a taste of what the next seven years would bring. It brought me to the hardest, but most fulfilling job on the planet. One moment I feel such rage (to be fair, this is generally more geared toward your sister), and the next pure elation and laughter experiencing life with my kids. From the beginning, you have made my job so much easier than it could have been and 10 times out of 10, I would take you on your worst day over a delinquent on their best.

You are a kind soul who loves his family and loves his friends. You like to be in control, making rules and making plans, which sometimes borders on the bossy. You are an influencer, and you find your followers. You are a wonderful brother to Jackson, and your friends are his friends. You include him, protect him when necessary, and never make him feel dumb or less than you.  You guys have one wallet, his money is your money; that type of sharing and lack of desire for "fairness" is hard to find.

You are bright, curious, and it's wonderful to watch you learn and grow. You have an independent, can-do spirit and you continue to have a confidence in yourself.

Brady, thanks for making me a mom seven years ago and for letting me love you each day that has followed.

Love,

Mom
