Firsts

Jackson is 2 weeks old today.  Life has been a little nuts.  Lack of sleep means my brain isn't quite functioning at its top form, so I'll have to write in bullet points.  Here's what our new family member has been up to:

-Jackson's first road trip to Newton & Charlotte on his 5th day of life.  We had some furniture shopping to do in Charlotte so we stayed at Eric's parents house in Newton.  We left Brady with his grandparents for our day of shopping.  Life with a newborn is sooo much easier without a toddler in tow.  Our day included a long, leisurely lunch, which I'm sure I've had at some point in the last year, but I sure don't remember one.

-Jackson's first birthday parties.  Two in one day, actually.  His brother may have enjoyed it more than he did...especially at Pump-it-Up.  Whoever invented bounce houses is genius.

-Jackson's first baseball games.  He's been to two already, although only about 3 innings per game.  This is because of his brother, who has the attention span of a two-year old...go figure.

-Jackson's first doctor's visit. After just under two weeks, he came in weighing 8 lbs 15 oz. Not surprising, since he eats (what feels like) every 12 minutes. He thinks I'm the Dairy Queen and this DQ is open all night!

And speaking of night, we have a party in our room every night...and all hours.  Here's how it usually goes: Wake up, feed him, burp him, feed him again, change his diaper, swaddle him, try to feed him again but he's asleep, so gently put him back in his crib and and fall back into a peaceful sleep.  Get woken up by grunts a bit later...look at the clock expecting hours to have passed and see that only minutes have.  Repeat cycle.  This kid really knows how to break a mom's spirit.  The good news is that I'm usually so tired that if I'm in my bed and not feeding/changing/burping Jackson, I am dead asleep.  But that means that even though Jackson is only waking up about 4 times per night, I'm actually waking up about 10 times since my 10 minutes spurts sleep might as well be 2 hours.  And with Brady waking up between 6-6:30, the brothers seem to have a nice tag-team thing going.

All that being said, we are surviving and I must remind myself that this is temporary.  Brady waited about a year to sleep through the night...I'm hoping Jackson doesn't follow suit.

And while we're on the subject of firsts, we had a big one today.  Our first offer on our house!  We've had 29 showings (but who's counting) and we finally got an offer.  Keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out with these buyers.  Getting out of our house (and cleaning it) for showings with a 2 year old and a newborn has been its own challenge.  I will be so grateful not to deal with that any more.  Without showings, my house may be messier, but right now, I'm ok with that.

Our life has certainly been eventful in the last two weeks.  One unfortunate event happened earlier this week - my mom was riding her bike and got hit by a car.  She is ok, but she broke her leg and will have surgery next Thursday.  We're sorry she won't be able to make it to NC next week...both for her sake and selfishly, for mine, since Eric starts basketball camp next week.

I'm sure our life will slow down at some point.  Until then...I'm going to try to sleep.
