Letters to Jackson: 4 months

Jackson,

Hi buddy!  You're 4 months old today!  Don't think I forgot about you.  Yes, you're right, I have a lot going on right now.  I'm writing again and have 3 articles due tomorrow (an unusually heavy load).  I've also taken a temporary 2nd job that fell into my plate.  And then there's that brother of yours that sort of takes up a lot of time.  You're pretty used to being strapped to me in the Moby wrap while I multi-talk.  You're faced outward, of course, because you might miss something otherwise and you'd rather be anywhere but plastered with your face into my chest.

But you are fairly skilled at making your presence known.  Perhaps its since you know that you have my undivided attention nighttime that you take such advantageous of that situation.  Shame on you!  It's been a bit rough, and your brother doesn't help.  Last night, you were up at 11, 1, and 3.  Your brother jumped in our bed at 4:30.  He was ready to play!  You farted in your semi-sleep (you're in the state a lot) about 5 am, Brady said "Jackson tooted!" You fit right in our family.  Brady fell asleep soon after...then you woke up! What a fun game you guys have going on!  Don't worry about your parents, we have no use for sleep.  And yes, you're still in our room, 2 months after your brother left.  Basically, with your brother typically crawling in bed about 6 am, it's a big party each morning with some uninvited guests who aren't afraid to make themselves at home.

You've had some big milestones this month.  A few days after you turned 3 months, you started flipping over from your tummy to your back.  A few weeks after that and you could flip the other direction.  And you can laugh! What a fantastic sound.  You've found your feet and Brady likes to point out that you don't have shoes on.  You love peek-a-boo and being put over my head like Superman.  When you laugh, it's generally a domino effect. Your brother laughs, your parents laugh, and it is those moments that make those early mornings worth it.

I'm tired, busy, and my hair is falling out.  But I love you much more than I could have imagined.  Thank you for being so darn cute...when you're sleeping.  And you're pretty darn sweet when you're awake, too.

I love you for who you are and for the mom you've helped me become.

Now let's go do this sleep thing.

Love,
Mom
