Life update

I envy the old me that had the time and energy to carefully craft thoughtful blog entries that followed a theme.  The me that could edit her pictures to make them look nice.  And could take pictures on her nice camera and upload them to her computer.

Now, I'm generally too exhausted at the end of the day, so I have to do what I'm doing now, typing frantically while Avery sleeps, still in her car seat from the errand we ran this morning at Home Depot, willing her to please just stay asleep a little longer while her brothers are in school and the house is peaceful.

Here's a little taste of what's been going on in our house:

- Snow days: I survived them.  Barely.  Friday was the big snow and schools were closed until Wednesday!  The combination of being inside, Eric still having to work/travel, Avery feeling sick, and Avery being a terrible sleeper made for a challenge that I conquered, but one I don't want to see again.

- Let's just get this one out of the way... Avery still sucks at sleeping.  Last night was an average night and it looked like this:  7:45 asleep (yay!!!!), 10:30 wake up and eat, fall easily back to sleep.  12:30 wake up and eat, fall easily back to sleep (right as Daddy returns from his trip to Louisville!), 2:30, wake up and eat, fall easily back to sleep, 4:45, wake up and eat, ready to party!  Mom changes diaper, mom sucks snot from baby's nose so she can breathe because maybe, breathing = sleep!  Baby poops, mom changes diaper again.  Mom reads book knowing she's in it for the long haul.  Baby coos, wants to play.  5:30, mom debates whether to tag dad or let him sleep since he got in late.  Mom remembers that she needs to function the next day and remembers that dad had a completely restful night of sleep in a hotel bed the night before, so she passes the baton and goes back to bed.

- Visitors: My mom flew in last Wednesday along with my aunt Carol and her grandson, Joe.  Joe is 13 and Brady immediately took charge and demanded Joe play with him.  Luckily, Joe was a great sport and occupied the boys for much of the weekend (or let the boys occupy him).  For my part, I held Brady off in the morning when he asked 35 times, "When is Joe gonna wake up?"

As you can see, Jackson is still selecting his own outfits.  Notice the PJ bottoms (it is 4 pm).

Besides raking, Grandma's big accomplishment was getting Avery to take a pacifier.  She was relentless.  I wouldn't say Avery loves a paci right now, but she will tolerate it, sometimes.

Basketball season:  Basketball season is here!  No, not the Tar Heels... they are old news.  I am talking about the Red Dragons.  Brady had his first practice last weekend and he loved it.  Eric got to help coach, which was fun to watch.  He is great with the kids, though I almost interjected when he started teaching the 4-year-olds about their pivot foot.  As you can see below, he had them doing defensive slides.

Sorry for the poor quality, but see if you can find Jackson in the picture.  He was my favorite to watch, even though he is actually not on the team (shhh, don't tell Jackson).

- Avery: for her faults at night, she is cute as can be and very fun to play with during the day. Her brothers continue to love her, and love on her.
