A four hour car ride without kids is easier than a trip to Target with them. Slight exaggeration, and maybe easy to say from the passenger who slept or read most of the trip.
My in-laws were brave to volunteer to keep the kids, especially after having kept Jackson, my bad sleeper, during a weekend a month before. Coming right off a week at the beach where he spent as much time in our bed as his crib, we were not setting his grandparents up for success.
The first night away, we got reports that he was up from 1:30-2:30, then woke up at 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30. Not a raging success. Improvement was made the next night...he woke up four times but took a paci and went back to sleep quickly. Mad props to Grandma who suffered through it with a smile (at least she was smiling when she recounted it).
I wish I could report things are going much better at home. Last night he woke up 3 times. He's averaging about 2.5...which is what they say the ideal number of kids to have is, not ideal number of times I want to get up at night.
