Double birthday bash

When Jackson was born close to Brady's birthday, Eric reassured Brady (who of course, couldn't care less) that he would get his own birthday parties; he wouldn't have to share with his brother.  It should be obvious that the one making such promise has never had to fully plan and execute a birthday party.  But after Saturday's double birthday bash, I think Eric was seeing the advantage of close birthdays....only ONE birthday party.

Although it was a lot of work, the party was great fun and we were so happy to celebrate with family and friends.  Jackson and Brady got a water slide as their birthday gift, and while our lawn suffered, the children did not.  When the first guests had arrived, Brady had already been in the water about an hour and his lips were just starting to change colors.  Brady got at least five outfits wet (imagine a 3 year old insisting he's "all done"....until he wants to go in 2 minutes later).  30 minutes after the party was supposed to end, with a few guests still lingering, Brady looked at his empty pool and it was just too much for him to handle.  I told him that he was not allowed to get ANOTHER outfit wet...so he obeyed, by stripping down to his birthday suit and taking one last run.

Jackson, we now know, had an ear infection, and wasn't feeling great.  In the middle of the party, I put him down for a nap and debated whether to wake him to sing happy birthday.  Eric decided it for me and Jackson was treated to his first taste of birthday cupcake.  On another day, I think he would have been more excited about this.  He seemed to like the cupcake ok, but was not thrilled about the frosting in his eyes.

Brady, with more experience at this type of thing, fared a bit better, and had no problem finishing off his cupcake.  He had a great cheering section who looked like they were ready to pounce on Brady's cupcake if he was struck by lightning and not able to perform.

Happy birthday Brady and Jackson!  We love you...but only enough for one party!
