Letters to Avery: 11 months

Dear Avery,

Has it really been 11 months? How is it possible my little baby is nearing toddlerhood? You are such a funny little creature, and I say that with so much affection. You have spunk and personality and you know your own mind.
Let's take a little tour through that mind, shall we?

First, that little mind wants me, all the time. Flattering, perhaps? Exhausting, for sure.  You want to not only see me, but be touching me, at all times. You do this thing that appears to be cuddling, but it's more like burrowing. It's like you're trying to enter back into my body and feel frustrated when you fail. So "cuddling" isn't always so cuddly.  You do great when I'm gone, but the moment I walk into the room you want me immediately and all hell breaks loose if you don't get full and immediate attention.

You love the water and you have no fear. You'll dive head first in and come up dripping and grinning.  You have no concept that your life has just been saved.  You do not like getting your diaper/outfit changed and 80% of the time, you act getting changed is the equivalent of being thrown in a den of lions. Like seriously dramatic. You sleep in a onsie at night for three reasons: 1) laziness 2) heat 3) unwillingness to wrestle a remarkably strong baby.

You certainly have a feisty side and it comes out at various times. (Ironically, I'm typing this on my phone and you just came and pulled my hair). You can hold your own with your brothers and you crack our family up when you pull the boys out of their sofa chairs in their room, like you can't believe they don't know that is your spot!

Your favorite spots are in your brothers chairs, the bathroom sink, and any bed.  If we had a floor level bed, all my dreams would come true (though then you probably wouldn't like it).  You would be content but not needing my constant attention. Speaking of beds, you go to sleep so easy now. It's a dream to be able to just put you in the crib and know you'll do to sleep. Now staying to sleep, well, we're not their yet. I'm sure one day I'll miss our late night parties.

In one month, you'll be one and your brother will be in kindergarten. Life seems to be moving at an incredible speed. While my words and actions don't always reflect my joy, I do love this crazy messy life we live and you make it louder, harder, better.

Love,
Mom
