Today, Brady and I went to the Durham Museum of Life & Science with our playgroup. I looked up the directions and I am proud to report that I got myself there without taking even one wrong turn (this happens approximately 7% of the time sans GPS). However, I realized as we were heading back home, that the road that brought be to the museum was a one way. So, I tried to figure it out on my own and realized after a few turns, things weren't going well. I pulled over, thankful for Internet on my phone, went to mapquest and got directions. I had to do some back-tracking and I came to an intersection that I had been at a few minutes earlier. The blind man who I had seen standing in the median was still in the same spot. I stopped at the red light and I saw an older gentleman stop his car next to the median, put on his flashers, and get out of his car. He said something to the man, took his arm, and led him across the busy intersection.
I'm always touched whenever I see someone help a total stranger in need. Today was the most literal display I've seen of someone leading the blind. He was this blind man's human GPS, and he needed it even more than me. I hope to be more like him this year. The helping stranger that is, not the blind man. I already have that role down.
On a totally unrelated note, remember my big project? This is what it looked like last week.
And here it is now!
It was a total time killer and it's not perfect, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. It is now hanging over our kitchen table. I'd give you a tutorial on how I did it, but take my word that you don't want to do it. Or if you really do, you can find out how to do it here.
I'm taking a brief hiatus on crafting...with the emphasis on brief. If I could only get a few more hours in the day, my problems would be solved!
