FUN

This is an excerpt from a text message exchange from Eric and myself the other night when he was out of town.  I take that back, this is the entire conversation.

Eric: What are you doing?
Me: Crafting
Eric: BORING
Me: FUN

And that about sums it up.

Thanks to Pinterest, I have caught the crafting bug.  Since Eric is about as impressed as a vegetarian at a meat convention, I thought I'd share my latest works with you.  With the exception of the Hoots print, I can take very little creative credit for any of these projects.  They are mostly copy-cats..and I'm ok with that.  In order of completion...

This is a print for our front entryway.  I did this the same way I did the "subway art" in our kitchen but this was way easier since it was half the size and more importantly, I didn't have hundreds of small characters to cut out.  Now that I finished, I sort of wish I had done the letters surrounding HOOTS in a different, maybe cursive text in addition to, or instead of the blue color, but oh well.

I made these out of scrap paper and a painted canvas.  I made the one on the right first and I liked it so much, I made another one.  Not sure where they will hang...I think the lighter one will hang in our red bathroom downstairs.  The other one, maybe our guest room.  A tutorial on how to make them is here.

With the exception of Christmas, I never have any seasonal decorations.  In hopes of putting a touch of Easter in our house, I made this egg garland out of paint chips and strung together with string.  My apologies Lowes for swiping your paint chips, but I'm sure it will help if I tell you that we now have holiday spirit in our house.  Tutorial is here.

By the way, if you look closely, you can see on the bottom left side where I melted the TV.  Note to self: don't put a candle underneath the TV and if your husband says he smells something burning, agree with him.

This scrap paper tree might be my favorite.  I used the same scrap paper from my other project so the only thing I had to buy was floral wire.  I used a champagne bottle as my vase and after I took the picture, I spray painted the bottle in chalkboard paint and am currently thinking of something clever to write on the bottle.  I think I'll go with H.  I plan to make another one of these for our guest bedroom (which is the drabbest room in the house...sorry guests) to match.  Tutorial on the scrap paper tree is here.

When Eric walked up the stairs and saw these, he asked, "What do they do?"  Men.  The picture isn't good, thanks to poor lighting and a poorer photographer, but these are shoe boxes covered in fabric and wrapped like a present and hung in our hallway.  That's it, no tutorial.  The hardest part was finding box tops.  We have a million shoe boxes in our house but they all seem to be Nike, which have the tops that connect to the box.  Annoying.  The small square is actually the bottom of an empty tissue box that I cut off.  And the long one is from an unopened train for Brady that is now opened.  Good thing, because Brady doesn't have enough toys.
So there you have it, my idea of fun.  All of these projects came in under $10 (individually) with some darn close to free.

  1. So this is what you've been doing instead of talking to me ever. Really cute and creative so that makes me feel not as bad. I like the wall art made from scraps and the tree/chalkboard bottle the best. Good stuff.
